Fox Point Drainage Solution Project

There are a wide range of drainage problems that affect homeowners.  These drainage problems will continue to get worse over time as water settles features such as lawn areas, patios and landscaping causing easily preventable damage and expense.   Our team’s approach to solving most drainage problems is simple, water flows downhill. We simply create a path for water to flow away from its undesired location.

In this project, two neighbors in Fox Point, WI were both having drainage issues.  The overgrown landscape had created a pitch towards both of their homes and created puddling in the lawn area between the homes.  The goal in this project was to create a positive pitch away from both homes and to create a smooth efficient swale.

Fox Point Drainage Solution
Both homes have a negative pitch towards the house and there is a flat lawn area between them where water pools.
landscape contractor
In order to achieve a positive pitch away from both homes, all the existing landscaping, trees and shrubs have to be removed.
landscape contractor
The removal process is almost complete and the area will soon be ready for grading.

The area is then graded to create an efficient swale.
landscape contractor
Trenching is taking place within the swale to install a drain tile system.
drain tile installer
The perforated drain tile is back filled with limestone chips to help absorb additional sub-surface water within the swale.
grading contractor
Drain tile is finished being installed and the final grades are being checked with a laser transit to ensure the swale is pitched properly and water will move efficiently away from both homes.
milwaukee landscaper
A catch basin is added to the drain tile system to help catch additional water within the swale.
waukesha landscaper
Topsoil, seed and erosion control are added to completed swale.
Franklin landscaper
The grading and swale are complete! All that needs to be done is for the customer to water the new lawn area.
New Berlin Landscaper
A few weeks later, the new lawn area has grown in nicely!

From beginning to end, this project took just 2 days!  Our expert team specializes in these types of drainage projects every day throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.  For additional information on drainage issues and their solutions, please visit our Drainage Solutions page.

Stone vs. Mulch, Which is Right For Me?

When updating, renovating or creating a planting bed one should know that there are many options to choose from. Stone has become a more popular product over traditional mulch. Below you will see our list of pros and cons for both stone and mulch.

Pros of Stone:
1. Reduces the possibility of weeds and grasses.
2. Creates a clean, uniform look all year round.
3. No need to replenish stone year after year.
4. Reduces maintenance.
5. Large selection of styles and colors to choose from.
6. Typically is installed with landscape fabric and bed edging.

Cons of Stone:
1. More expensive than traditional mulch.
2. Harder to install new plants once the stone is in place.
3. Labor intensive to install.

Pros of Mulch:
1. More natural product.
2. Biodegradable over time to form soil.
3. Cost effective.
4. Easy to install.
5. Large selection of colors to choose from.
6. Landscape fabric and bed edging is not necessary.

Cons of Mulch:
1. Have to replenish every year or every other year.
2. Can be moved around (out of bed areas) by wind, rain and snow.
3. Loses color over time.

If you would like to view examples of different types of stone and mulch, feel free to stop by our outdoor display. Whether you prefer stone or mulch, our team would be happy to install either at your home!

Variety of Landscape Lighting Techniques

If you are thinking about ways to provide a distinctive effect to your landscape, adding lighting fixtures is an affordable and creative way. By adding a light system, you can tastefully accent and highlight selected features of your landscape and improve home security measures.
Soft lighting adds warmth and dimension to a landscape.
One way to incorporate landscape lighting is through up lighting, or projecting light upwards to focus on specific objects and plants in the landscape area. Up lighting accentuates trees, shrubs, and other plants that stand above the general landscaping plane.
Similarly, down lighting is another lighting technique that can create unique and dramatic effects. You can achieve a down lighting effect by mounting flood or spotlights above the landscape line. Down lighting, sometimes called moonlighting, creates a soft, subtle radiance throughout specific areas of your yard.
Another approach to enhancing landscape through the use of light is backlighting, or silhouette lighting. Placing light fixtures between your home’s facade and a particular object causes the object in front of the lighting to appear as a silhouette. You can also use backlighting to highlight walls, columns or doorways for further effect.

There are endless possibilities to incorporate lighting into your overall landscape design. Integrity Landscape Services has designed and installed lighting approaches throughout the Milwaukee area and surrounding counties. Enjoy unique results that fit your budget by integrating lighting effects to your landscape this season.
